Welcome!

The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

We will walk by the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, U.N. headquarters etc. We will take an aerial tram from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island and back (one way fare is $2.75). Meet at the Penn Station at the corner of 33rd Street and 8th Avenue at 10 am. Bring water and lunch or purchase lunch on the hike as there will be a few lunch options available on Roosevelt Island.     The Donut Hole Trail (DHT) is a trail paralleling the West Branch of the Susquehanna River through Sproul State Forest, in north-central PA. Most of the trail is in Clinton County, with a short segment at its western end in Cameron County. The Donut Hole Trail is regarded as one of the most challenging and remote trails in PA, encountering just 6 paved road along its entire length and featuring many difficult and steep climbs and unbridged stream crossing. During this trip, we’ll be day hiking the western section of the trail from where it departs the Susquehannock Trail System to the western terminus, near Jericho. We'll be camping in Kettle Creek State Park. 

    Optional day of hiking in Bald Eagle State Park on June 6 and staying in The Nature Inn at Bald Eagle State Park.

    Meet Hike Leaders Bob and Alison Gagnon 610-547-0034, robertgagnon@verizon.net, for 3 days of day hiking in the Adirondacks, NY, High Peaks Region, August 26 to 30th, 2024. We will be staying at the Adirondack Loj (www.adk.org) which provides bunkhouse sleeping arrangements (shared baths); breakfast, bagged lunch (upon request), and dinner are included in the room fee. The Loj is at the trailhead for all proposed hikes so once at the Loj, no driving is necessary. Proposed hikes are 1) Tuesday August 27, Mt Marcy, the highest peak in the High Peaks Region (5344 ft with 3166 ft ascent, 15 miles), 2) Wednesday August 28, rest day with short hikes around the Loj area if desired, or a day in Lake Placid (10 miles from the Loj) or sites nearby, and 3) Thursday August 29, Algonquin Peak, the second highest peak in the High Peaks Region (5114 ft with 2936 ft ascent, 9 miles). We will adjust the hikes and/or timings if there are weather or other issues.

    Monday August 26 and Friday August 30 are travel days, with the option of traveling home after the hike on Thursday August 29, if desired. Car pooling for travel is suggested (~6.5 hour drive from KoP).      Meet HL Ingrid Cantarella-Fox, 484-432-2150, at  7:00 AM  for a loop around Mt Misery which may or may not include a hike over Mt. Joy and an optional up and down Wolfinger.  Park in the  Knox Parking Lot on Route 252. Restrooms nearby and water are available. Directions: From Route 202, take Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) north for 1.2 miles. Lot is on the left. Bring water.

    Meet HLs Kathy Borrell, 484-645-7068 (C), John Silveri, 610-857-3618 (H), or Mike Donnelly, 610-955-2001 (C), for a hike on the trails in and around the park. Directions: West on Route 30 to Route 10; turn left onto Route 10 and go 3.7 miles to Highland Rd. Turn right onto Highland Rd and go 3.3 miles to left onto Bailey Crossroads. Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd and go about 1 mile and turn right into Wolf's Hollow Drive to the parking lot on the left. Bring water. Please Note: This hike will not be held on Fridays when there is an Adopt-A-Highway or other work hikes. Any questions or in doubt, contact one of the hike leaders.
