Welcome!

The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

  • Harmony Hill Nature Area, Class B, 5-7 Miles

     Meet HL John Trexler, ph. (484) 319-2350, at the Skelp Level Rd parking lot.

    Directions: From West Chester go west on Route 322; turn right onto Skelp Level Rd; go 1.6 miles to the driveway on the left. If you reach Wilderness Trail you went a little too far. From Downingtown go east on Route 322; turn left onto Boot Rd (Wawa is at the intersection). Then continue for approximately 0.6 mile. Turn right onto Skelp Level Rd and continue for approximately one mile. The entrance to the Harmony Hill Nature Area will be on your right. If you reach Winchester Trail, you went a little too far.

    Directions: From the intersection of Routes 1 and 202, go south on Route 1 for 2.9 miles. The school is on your right (at the traffic light). Park in the lower lot on your left.

    Directions: From Route 202, take Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) north for 1.2 miles. Lot is on the left.

Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd and go about 1 mile and turn right into Wolf's Hollow Drive to the parking lot on the left.

  • Mason Dixon Trail - Apollo County Park to Highpoint Park, Class B/C, 15-16 Miles

     Meet HL Joe Kiczek (c) 484-639-8824 at the York County High Point Heritage Park (parking area) at 8:15AM. From there we will shuttle to the Apollo County Park Trailhead. Hike will be along the western shore of the Susquehanna River, several  stream crossings, numerous climbs and descents with some steep ascents and descents on switchbacks, numerous vistas of the river.

    HL requests participants to confirm attendance by Friday evening.

    We can meet up in the Home Depot parking area behind the Arby’s Restaurant (800 Commons Drive Parkesburg, PA 19365) to carpool with a 7:00 AM departure, maximum number of hikers per car is 2 since this a shuttle hike.

    Written directions for shuttle to start will be handed out at meet up.

    DIRECTIONS: From Routes 10 & 30 West on Route 30 toward York/Harrisburg for 35 miles, Take the exit toward PA-462 Wrightsville and keep left at the fork, then follow signs for Wrightsville/PA-462. (Cross over the Susquehanna River) Turn left onto Cool Springs Road/ Cool Creek Road In 2.5 miles turn left onto Knights View Road, In 1 mile turn left onto Hilt Road, In 200 feet turn right then parking is 150 feet to your left.

  • Hibernia County Park and Old Fiddlers Picnic, Class B, 6-8 Miles

    Meet HL John Trexler, ph. (484) 319-2350, in the main parking lot near Hibernia Mansion for this somewhat hilly, mostly wooded hike.

    The Old Fiddlers Picnic runs from 10am - 4pm and is free of charge. Bring a lunch if you want to hang around after the hike (or buy from one of the food trucks). There are performances at the band shell and a lot of informal jam sessions.

    Directions: Take Route 30 bypass to Route 82 north.  Go north on Route 82 for about 2 miles to Cedar Knoll Road, turn left and go another 2 miles to the park entrance on the left.

    Meet Hike Leaders Alison and Bob Gagnon 610-547-0034, robertgagnon@verizon.net, for a day hike on Section 8 of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania.  The hike is from PA 325 to the Susquehanna River at Route 147 and Clarks Ferry Bridge.

    This will be a shuttle hike.

    Hikers are asked to have completed at least 3 documented hikes with the CCTC. Those who do not meet this criteria but wish to participate, and guest hikers, are asked to contact the HL at least 72 hours before the hike.

    Directions: Meet at the AT access parking lot at Route 147 and Clarks Ferry Bridge, Duncannan, at 8:30 am.

Park in lot beside Timothy's Restaurant (now closed).

    Directions: From Route 3 & US 202, go east on Route 3 approximately 6 miles to Delchester Road traffic light. Turn left and go up the hill approximately 400 feet to the Dog Park parking lot on the left. Meet by the Bulletin Board. If the lot is filled, go past the entrance and park under the pine trees on the left. From US 252 and US 3, go west approximately 4.3 miles to Delchester Road traffic light. Turn right and proceed up to the Dog Park parking lot on the left. Please note:

    There are no restrooms on the preserve and there are a number of hills to climb. There is a Wawa approximately 3 miles west on Route 3.

    Meet HLs Pradip Bhatnagar (4842521947), for an easy hike in Marsh Creek State Park. We will hike along the north shore of the lake. The terrain is mostly flat with slight elevations. There are three minor water crossings which are normally dry and easy to cross. You may want to bring hiking poles with you. The hike will be 4-5 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    Directions: From Route 30 and Route 100 crossing in Exton. Take Route 30 business west for 0.8 miles. Take Route 30 west toward Coatsville/Lancaster, 2.8 miles take exit 322 West. 1.6 miles take CornerKetch Rd. 2.3 miles turn left on to PA 282 West. 450 feet turn right on to Lyndell Rd. 0.7 miles turn left on to Marsh Creek State Park. 0.4 miles to the parking lot.

    Join Keystone Trails Association for its annual Keystone Hiking & Outdoor Weekend, set against the fall foliage of the Susquehanna Riverlands Conservation Landscape in Lancaster and York counties. Based near Columbia, PA, the four-day event (Thursday–Sunday) offers something for every kind of adventurer: guided hikes for all skill levels, road and gravel biking, river paddling, overnight backpacking and bike packing, birding walks, a mushroom ID hike, nature journaling, yoga, and stewardship projects — plus tours highlighting the region's Underground Railroad history.

    Evening highlights include a keynote dinner at John Wright Restaurant and a Saturday social at Columbia Kettle Works, featuring a special weekend brew benefiting KTA.

    Come for one day or all four — costs run $10/day for youth (18 and under) to $25/day for adults. Registration is open now and closes October 20, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. (the event is expected to sell out). Lodging is available at the Hampton Columbia Chip Factory Hotel or at group campsites in Susquehannock State Park.

    FINDING THE Meeting Place:

    Once in the Navy Yard, turn LEFT onto Kitty Hawk Avenue and continue to South 11th Street.  Turn right onto 11th Street to its end at Admiral Peary Way.  This is our meeting place.

    The 31st Annual Hike Across Delaware Saturday, November 7, 2026

    Online registration opens on  September 1, 2026 

    The Hike Across Delaware (HAD) is held in November.  It is a fun, non-competitive, annual community event hosted by the Wilmington Trail Club and offering the opportunity to hike fifteen miles, the entire width of Delaware.

    Check-in takes place at the Gazebo in Delaware City’s Battery Park between 8 and 8:45 a.m. at which time buses take participants to the start in North Chesapeake City, Maryland.  Delaware City public parking is available one block from Battery Park at 82 Washington Street.

    We hike along the north side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The route is mostly flat and lies mainly on land designated as the C&D Canal Conservation Area. At the town of St. Georges, 10 miles along the trail, light refreshments and rest rooms are available.  At this juncture, provisions are made to transport people back to their cars, if necessary.

    The early November weather is usually ideal and the trees and shrubbery sporting their fall foliage, combined with a close view of boats, ships and barges using the waterway, make for a pleasant journey along the trail.

    The trail is paved and comfortable sneakers or walking shoes, not hiking boots, are recommended.  Although the terrain is not difficult, the distance requires adequate preparation.  But, just think – you’ll be able to tell people you walked across an entire state!   Hike Across Delaware (HAD) 2026 – Wilmington Trail Club

    Directions: From Route 202 in West Chester, Take Route 322 West towards Downingtown. Turn right into Sugars Bridge Nature area parking lot (just past Skelp Level Rd and before Sugars Bridge Rd).
    From Rt 30 in Downingtown, Take Route 322 East past Boot Rd and then go past trestle railroad bridge and through the light at Sugars Bridge Rd. Turn left into Sugars Bridge Nature area parking lot.

    Meet HL Ingrid Cantarella-Fox, 484-432-2150, at  7:00 AM  for a loop around Mt Misery which may or may not include a hike over Mt. Joy and an optional up and down Wolfinger.  Park in the  Knox Parking Lot on Route 252. Restrooms nearby and water are available.

    Directions: From Route 202, take Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) north for 1.2 miles. Lot is on the left.

    Bring water.

    Dogs are allowed as long as they are well behaved and on a leash.

    Directions: West on Route 30 to Route 10; turn left onto Route 10 and go 3.7 miles to Highland Rd. Turn right onto Highland Rd and go 3.3 miles to left onto Bailey Crossroads. Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd and go about 1 mile and turn right into Wolf's Hollow Drive to the parking lot on the left.

    Bring water and snacks.

    Please Note: This hike will not be held on Fridays when there is an Adopt-A-Highway or other work hikes. Any questions or in doubt, contact one of the hike leaders.
