The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

    Meet HLs Pradip Bhatnagar (4842521947), for an easy hike on Struble Trail. Meet in the Struble Trail/Marsh Creek Trail Head on Dorlan Mil Road (Near 282,Creek Road and Dorlan Mill Road crossing). The hike would be 3-4 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    Co-Leader, Ingrid Cantarella-Fox (484-432-2150) will do 5 -6 miles for those interested.


    Directions:  From Route 30 get on Route 113 North Turn left on Peck Rd. (Right turn is (Whitford Hill Rd). Peck Rd ends at Dowlin Forge Rd. Turn left on Dowlin Forge Rd. Stay on Dowlin Forge Rd till a T junction. Turn right on Shelmire RD. Shelmire Rd ends at Dorlan Mill Road. Turn Left on Dorlan Mill rd. The parking lot is on the left just before the Brandywine creek bridge to Route 282.

    Meet Hike Leader George March, 610.384.3753 (H), at 9:30 AM in the area behind the Arboretum’s Visitor Center for a hike exploring the Arboretum’s outer, inner, and connecting trails.

    This is a joint hike with Tyler Arboretum members, and members of the public are also invited to participate. Tyler membership, a guest pass, or payment of entry fee is required. Admissions are: Adults (ages 18-64): $18; Seniors (65+), and Veterans: $15; Military, and children ages 3-17, and students with valid ID: $10; Tyler members - Free. To expedite entry processing through the Visitor Center, Tyler is requesting pre-registration from their Website’s Event Calendar page (https://tylerarboretum.org/calendar).  CCTC does not have a registration requirement; there is no limit on the number of hikers. The gate to the parking lot opens at 9:00 AM; park in the lot. Sign in with the hike leader on the Club’s sign-in sheet then check in at the Visitor Center window. Proceed to circle-up at 9:30 AM on the grass area in front of the Barn.

    Directions: From West Chester travel south on route PA 352 (Middletown Road), turn east (left) onto Forge Road to merge with Painter Road, then 400 yards south to entry gate and parking lot on the left.

     Meet HL John Odell, 484-885-6205 in Kirkwood Preserve, part of the Willistown Conservation Trust.Warm and cool pasture grasses comprise the majority of these 95 acres preserve. Trails are maintained. There is only one small hill that we will navigate and not a lot of shade. One small brook crossing. 

    Address:  855 Grubbs Mill Rd, Newtown Square. Directions: Coming from east or west, take Goshen Road. Grubbs road forms a “T” at Goshen Road so you will turn either left or right and go north approximately ¼ mile to the parking lot on the right-hand side. Coming south or north on Providence Road you turn to go eastly on Goshen Road.

    No pets are allowed. Bring water and a snack.

    Meet HL Joe Kiczek (c) 484-639-8824, at Lock 60 parking lot, for a hike that has a bit of everything:  Canals, Dams, Locks, Animals and a Nature Sanctuary.  We will hike the Tow Path along the Schuylkill River and then take the Upper Schuylkill River Trail to the Upper Schuylkill Valley Park where we will see wolves, foxes, donkeys, eagles, hawks and other critters and then proceed back along the south side of the river and back to the Lock 60 parking lot.

    ADDRESS:  Near 400 Towpath Road, Mont Clare, PA 19453.  DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of Routes 29 and 202 drive north on Route 29 for approximately 2.0 miles and turn right onto White Horse Road, drive 3.7 miles and turn left onto Valley Forge Road, drive 0.3 miles and turn right onto Starr Street, drive 0.9 miles and turn right onto Bridge Street, cross over bridge and make 1st left toward Lock 60. Keep going until you reach the end of the street, turn left and follow the road along the river. You can park anywhere on the right side of the street. Google Directions: From I-95 North towards Philadelphia Take Exit 17, head right on the ramp for PA-611 North towards Pattison Avenue (0.6 mi), Make a U Turn (0.3mi), Road name changes to South Broad Street (0.1 mi), Bear right, then bear right onto South Broad Street ( 0.4 mi), turn left onto Kitty Hawk Avenue ).

    Dee's directions: take the Scenic Route which involves going over the George Platt Bridge and a small lift bridge. From I-95 North towards Philadelphia use the right two lanes to take Exit 13 towards I-76 West (1.4 mi), Merge onto Penrose Avenue.     Meet HLs Pradip Bhatnagar (4842521947), for an easy hike in Marsh Creek State Park. We will hike along the north shore of the lake. The terrain is mostly flat with slight elevations. There are three minor water crossings which are normally dry and easy to cross. You may want to bring hiking poles with you. The hike will be 3-4 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    Directions:  From Route 113 and 30 By Pass: Take US 30 west to Coatesville Lancaster-0.5 miles, take the exit toward PA 282/Wallace Ave 0.1 mile, turn left on to Norwood Rd 0.4 mile.     • Meet at Josiah White Park in front of the Jim Thorpe Visitors Center.

    Meet Hike Leaders Alison and Bob Gagnon (610-547-0034, robertgagnon@verizon.net),for a day hike on the Switchback loop trail in Jim Thorpe, PA. Despite its name, the trail is not a typical switchback ascent, but rather is a historical local railroad line (“Switchback Gravity Railroad”) converted into a hiking trail. Hence, the trail is mostly straight and flat, with a modest climb to the ridge overlooking the town, ending at the top of Mt Pisgah, which has a nice view of Jim Thorpe and Lehigh Valley. The hike will finish with a walk down the lower half of Broadway, which is the main shopping and restaurant area of the town. Bring water, snack, lunch. Restrooms are available. Those interested are invited to stay after the hike for food and/or drink at Molly Maguires, which is located adjacent to the visitors center.

    Directions: Follow the NE Extension of the PA turnpike to Lehigh Avenue, Jim Thorpe.

Directions: West on Route 30 to Route 10; turn left onto Route 10 and go 3.7 miles to Highland Rd. Turn right onto Highland Rd and go 3.3 miles to left onto Bailey Crossroads. Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd and go about 1 mile and turn right into Wolf's Hollow Drive to the parking lot on the left. Bring water. Please Note: This hike will not be held on Fridays when there is an Adopt-A-Highway or other work hikes. Any questions or in doubt, contact one of the hike leaders.
