Welcome!

The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

    Directions: From the intersection of Routes 100 and 23 (Ridge Road), go west on Route 23/Ridge Road for 3.4 miles to County Park Road. Turn left onto County Park Road, go 0.3 miles to the entrance of the park (there is a sign for the park) and turn left. Go to the parking lot on your right.

    Meet HLs Dee McGrath, 610-331-7410, Peggy Donnelly, 610-299-3885 , for a hike around the Navy Yard. This hike will  involve seeing the past, present and future of the Philadelphia Naval Yard. This is an amazing historical and cultural area not to be missed.  You can bring your lunch or we can eat at one of the many different venues within the Navy Yard.

    Meeting Place Address: 

    Meeting place is on the Riverfront Greenway at 11th and Admiral Peary Way.

    FINDING THE Meeting Place:

    Once in the Navy Yard, turn LEFT onto Kitty Hawk Avenue and continue to South 11th Street.  Turn right onto 11th Street to its end at Admiral Peary Way.  This is our meeting place.

    Google Maps: Building 611 will get you to South 11th Street.

    PARKING: Street parking can be found along 11th Street or Admiral Peary Way.

     Google Directions: From I-95 North towards Philadelphia Take Exit 17, head right on the ramp for PA-611 North towards Pattison Avenue (0.6 mi), Make a U Turn (0.3mi), Road name changes to South Broad Street (0.1 mi), Bear right, then bear right onto South Broad Street ( 0.4 mi), turn left onto Kitty Hawk Avenue ).

    Dee's directions: take the Scenic Route which involves going over the George Platt Bridge and a small lift bridge. From I-95 North towards Philadelphia use the right two lanes to take Exit 13 towards I-76 West (1.4 mi), Merge onto Penrose Avenue. Do not take Island Ave (2.0mi), Turn right onto South 26th Street (1.0 mi), Turn left onto Kitty Hawk  Avenue

    The 31st Annual Hike Across Delaware Saturday, November 7, 2026

    Online registration opens on  September 1, 2026 

    The Hike Across Delaware (HAD) is held in November.  It is a fun, non-competitive, annual community event hosted by the Wilmington Trail Club and offering the opportunity to hike fifteen miles, the entire width of Delaware.

    Check-in takes place at the Gazebo in Delaware City’s Battery Park between 8 and 8:45 a.m. at which time buses take participants to the start in North Chesapeake City, Maryland.  Delaware City public parking is available one block from Battery Park at 82 Washington Street.

    We hike along the north side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The route is mostly flat and lies mainly on land designated as the C&D Canal Conservation Area. At the town of St. Georges, 10 miles along the trail, light refreshments and rest rooms are available.  At this juncture, provisions are made to transport people back to their cars, if necessary.

    The early November weather is usually ideal and the trees and shrubbery sporting their fall foliage, combined with a close view of boats, ships and barges using the waterway, make for a pleasant journey along the trail.

    The trail is paved and comfortable sneakers or walking shoes, not hiking boots, are recommended.  Although the terrain is not difficult, the distance requires adequate preparation.  But, just think – you’ll be able to tell people you walked across an entire state!   Hike Across Delaware (HAD) 2026 – Wilmington Trail Club

    Meet HL Dee McGrath, 610-331-7410, for a shorter version of the HAD . We will meet in Delaware City and hike the canal route until we make it to the Creamery at Saint George's For Ice Cream ( which is the 5 mile turn around point).

    Anyone who wishes to do less may do so at any point just inform the HL.  This hike will give us time to enjoy the beauty of the area without the pressure to finish within a certain time frame. Once we return to Delaware City we can meet up with friends who may be finishing the HAD. If the Ice Cream and the scenery is not enough lunch is also an option. This hike is not sponsored by the Wilmington Trail Club.

    Meet HL Barbara Lombardo (cell: 610-564-6550)at the Opalanie Park parking lot located on St. Matthews Road Chester Springs, PA. The hike will be through wooded hillsides and open pasture areas. An optional 2-3 minute trailhead yoga/stretch will be offered at the start and end of the hike.

    Directions: St. Matthews Road is across from St. Matthews United Church of Christ located on Route 401, (1.5 miles from Route 100 or 2.7 miles from Route 113).  Take St. Matthews Road for 2.7 miles, the lot is on the right.  GPS will get you close – Look for the Opalanie Park sign.

    Meet HL Jim Lertola, 484-883-9021, for a Class B, 5-mile hike, with 500-ft elevation gain. Loop trail through mature forest and fields, skirting the Big Elk Creek for part. Primarily rolling hills with a few steep climbs.

    Directions: From Kennett Square, go west on Baltimore Pike to the light in Toughkenamon. Turn left onto Newark Road. Go 3.7 mi and turn right onto Buttonwood Road. Go 0.6 mi and turn right onto Broad Run Road. Go 0.5 mi and turn right onto Good Hope Road. Go 2.3 mi and turn left onto Flint Hill Road. Go 2.4 mi and bear right onto Elbow Lane. Go 0.2 mi and turn left onto Appleton Road in Cecil County, MD. Go 0.5 mi and turn right onto Black Bridge Road. Go 1.2 mi and turn right onto Tawes Drive. Go 0.1 mi till you reach the Fair Hill Nature Center on your left, but turn right to enter the large parking lot.

    Directions: Take US-202 North toward King of Prussia. Using the right 3 lanes merge onto I-76 East toward Philadelphia East (5.0 mi.) Take exit 331B to merge onto I-476 N toward Plymouth Meeting (2.8 mi).  Take exit 18A toward Conshohocken. Merge onto Ridge Pike/SR 3056/State Route 3056. Continue to follow Ridge Pike. Turn right onto Highland Rd. and go 3.3 miles (you'll cross over Route 41) to a left onto Bailey Crossroads. Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd, go about 1 mile and make a right into the park. The parking lot is on the left. If that lot is filled, go back up the driveway to the overflow parking on the left as you go up the hill. We plan to be done by lunchtime. No dogs.     Meet HLs Alison Gagnon 610-322-9746 (alison.gagnon@verizon.net) and Bob Gagnon, for a hike through diverse wetlands, woodlands, and meadows on the Green Ribbon Trail that shadows the Wissahickon Creek from North Wales to Flourtown. The trail is generally moderate grade (elevation gain/loss ~175/350 ft) composed of dirt (potentially muddy at times) with areas of exposed roots and rocks, wooden bridges/boardwalks, several road crossings, with some short paved areas. The trail includes 7-8 concrete stepping-stone crossings of the Wissahickon Creek – trekking poles recommended.

    Address: Meet at Fort Washington State Park, Militia Hill Day Use Area, Parking Lot #5, State Park Rd (also called Fort Washington Rd on some map apps), PA (GPS: 40.12104, -75.22367) at 9:00 am. The parking lot is opposite the Hawk Observation Deck. GPS coordinates are the most efficient way to find the parking lot.

    Directions: From PA Turnpike Eastbound take Exit 333 towards Norristown, Take Ramp for Plymouth Rd, Turn Right onto Plymouth Rd this turns into Flourtown Rd, Turn Left onto Joshua Rd, Turn Right onto Militia Hill Rd, Turn Right (just after 447 Militia Hill Rd) onto State Park Rd. Parking Lot #5 is the first lot on your right and is opposite the Hawk Observation Deck. Note: State Park Rd is also called Fort Washington Rd on some map apps (ie, Apple maps).

    Shuttle: From there we will shuttle to Parkside Place in North Wales (415 Parkside Pl, Upper Gwynedd, PA, ~25-minute shuttle; GPS: 40.21031, -75.28847) where we will start the hike. Park at the back of the park on the right after the Township Building and across from the pool. 

    NOTE: There are restrooms at both Ft. Washington State Park Parking Lot 5 and Parkside Place.

After 0.1 miles, turn left onto Temple Road. After 1.0 mile, take a slight left onto St. Peters Road. After 0.5 miles, turn left to stay on St. Peters Road. After 0.5 miles, turn left onto Fernbrook Lane. Note that this is a one-way driveway and the main parking lot is near the exit. Continue past first parking area. Take the left and continue until you reach remote parking lot.

    Meet HL Ingrid Cantarella-Fox, 484-432-2150, at  7:00 AM  for a loop around Mt Misery which may or may not include a hike over Mt. Joy and an optional up and down Wolfinger.  Park in the  Knox Parking Lot on Route 252. Restrooms nearby and water are available.

    Directions: From Route 202, take Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) north for 1.2 miles. Lot is on the left.

    Bring water.

    Dogs are allowed as long as they are well behaved and on a leash.

    Directions: West on Route 30 to Route 10; turn left onto Route 10 and go 3.7 miles to Highland Rd. Turn right onto Highland Rd and go 3.3 miles to left onto Bailey Crossroads. Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd and go about 1 mile and turn right into Wolf's Hollow Drive to the parking lot on the left.

    Bring water and snacks.

    Please Note: This hike will not be held on Fridays when there is an Adopt-A-Highway.

    Directions: From Route 202 in West Chester, Take Route 322 West towards Downingtown. Turn right into Sugars Bridge Nature area parking lot (just past Skelp Level Rd and before Sugars Bridge Rd).
    From Rt 30 in Downingtown, Take Route 322 East past Boot Rd and then go past trestle railroad bridge and through the light at Sugars Bridge Rd. Turn left into Sugars Bridge Nature area parking lot.
