Welcome!

The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

     Directions: From Exton, head north on PA-100.  Turn left onto PA-23.  In 4.9 miles, turn right onto Trythall Road.  Trythall Road ends in 1.5 miles at Harmonyville Road.  Turn left here, then make the first right onto Piersol Road.  The preserve parking lot comes up quickly on your left.

    Meet HLs Pradip Bhatnagar (4842521947), for an easy hike on Struble Trail. Meet in the Struble Trail/Marsh Creek Trail Head on Dorlan Mil Road (Near 282,Creek Road and Dorlan Mill Road crossing). The hike would be 3-4 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    Directions:  From Route 30 get on Route 113 North Turn left on Peck Rd. (Right turn is (Whitford Hill Rd). Peck Rd ends at Dowlin Forge Rd. Turn left on Dowlin Forge Rd. Stay on Dowlin Forge Rd till a T junction. Turn right on Shelmire RD. Shelmire Rd ends at Dorlan Mill Road. Turn Left on Dorlan Mill rd. The parking lot is on the left just before the Brandywine creek bridge to Route 282.

If the lot is filled, go past the entrance and park under the pine trees on the left. From US 252 and US 3, go west approximately 4.3 miles to Delchester Road traffic light. Turn right and proceed up to the Dog Park parking lot on the left. Please note:

    There are no restrooms on the preserve and there are a number of hills to climb. There is a Wawa approximately 3 miles west on Route 3.

    DIRECTIONS: From Exton take Route 100 South to US 202 South to   PA-926 West (right turn) to PA-52 South (left turn) to US-1 South (right turn) for 5.6 miles and exit toward Toughkenamon/London Grove. In 0.3 miles turn left onto Newark Road for 5 miles. Turn right onto Buttonwood Road for 0.6 miles. Turn right onto Broad Run Road for 0.5 miles. Slight left onto London Tract Road for 0.2 miles. Parking Lot #1 will be on your left.

Turn left onto Green Lane and stay in the right lane to go straight, up the hill.  After 0.6 mi turn right onto Manayunk Ave.  After 0.3 mi turn left onto Roxborough Ave and go 0.6+ mi. Follow the road around to the right onto Magnalena Street. The parking lot will be 0.2 mi on your right across from the golf course entrance.

    • Meet at Josiah White Park in front of the Jim Thorpe Visitors Center.

    Meet Hike Leaders Alison and Bob Gagnon (610-547-0034, robertgagnon@verizon.net),for a day hike on the Switchback loop trail in Jim Thorpe, PA. Despite its name, the trail is not a typical switchback ascent, but rather is a historical local railroad line (“Switchback Gravity Railroad”) converted into a hiking trail. Hence, the trail is mostly straight and flat, with a modest climb to the ridge overlooking the town, ending at the top of Mt Pisgah, which has a nice view of Jim Thorpe and Lehigh Valley. The hike will finish with a walk down the lower half of Broadway, which is the main shopping and restaurant area of the town. Bring water, snack, lunch. Restrooms are available. Those interested are invited to stay after the hike for food and/or drink at Molly Maguires, which is located adjacent to the visitors center.

    Directions: Follow the NE Extension of the PA turnpike to Lehigh Avenue, Jim Thorpe.

    The Standing Stone Trail (SST) is an 80-mile trail (formerly known as the Link Trail) that traverses the ridge and valley region of south-central Pennsylvania. It connects the Mid State Trail and Tuscarora Trail, and it is a component of the Great Eastern Trail network. We will be day hiking the northern 3 sections of the SST where it intersects with the Mid-State Trail.

    March 30 or 31 is a travel day with 3 days of day hiking. March 31 is an optional day of hiking (Greenwood Furnace State Park) and scouting trail heads with April 1 to 3, hiking sections 1 to 3 of the SST.

    The Wilmington Trail Club is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Brandywine Valley Trails Challenge – a 50 K event for hikers and runners, with a 35 K option.The Brandywine Valley Trails Challenge will both start and finish in Brandywine Creek State Park (BCSP) at the Hawk Watch Pavillion. It will start with a loop in the beautiful forests and meadows of Winterthur, where we have special permission to hike on the dates of the warm-up and the day of the event.   The route will continue along the Brandywine River to Smiths Bridge Parking Lot. Then the route will continue through First State National Historical Park (FSNHP) and on to Penns Woods with small stream crossings in a beautiful forest. 

    Finally, the route winds its way to Alapocas Run State Park.  After traveling through Alapocas Woods, the final leg enters the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail and heads north back to a finish in BCSP. (Participants may choose to skip the Alapocas loop, shortening the hike by ~ 15 km).The Brandywine Valley Trails Challenge is an impressive tour of beautiful areas. It goes through old growth climax forests, around cultivated fields, horse pastures, a vineyard and many scenic hills with much less road walking than the End-to-End.

    It will surprise many hikers that such natural areas are so close to Wilmington. We consider this long hike to be at least as challenging as the End-to End because of the hilly terrain. Similar to the End-to-End, the hike will be well-supported with rest stops and a cook-out at the finish.

Hike will be along the western shore of the Susquehanna River and feature trails along scenic streams with many small waterfalls, several stream crossings, numerous climbs and descents with some steep ascents and descents on switchbacks, numerous vistas of the river valley and trails through two State Game Lands

    Carpool: We can meet up in the Home Depot parking area behind the Arby’s Restaurant  (800 Commons Drive Parkesburg, PA 19365) to carpool with a 7:00 AM departure, maximum number of hikers per car is 2 since this a shuttle hike.

    Directions: From North of West Chester; take 202 South to High Street exit. At bottom of exit ramp and traffic light, turn right into Parkway Plaza. From South of West Chester; head North on Route 202 to West Chester. Take High Street (Business) exit straight ahead. At light, turn right into Parkway Plaza. Park in lot beside Timothy's Restaurant (now closed).

    Bring Water and snacks. You can also choose to stay for brunch after the hike.
